Here is a video we recorded to help explain how easy and accessible it is to start Using Chat GPT with Excel for Supply Chain. Transcription of the video is below:
s AI something that is relevant for supply chain professionals now?? Hi, I’ve been getting quite a few questions from people recently saying, why are we making such a big deal about AI? That it’s this theoretical topic that hasn’t actually made a real impact on people’s day-to-day jobs and supply chain. And what I just want to show today is, well, how current and easy it is to use AI, in particular ChatGPT, and how powerful it is. But I suppose the big kicker is the cost, because it’s pretty much free. I have an example here that I’m going to bring you through, which is linked to an account that I have, but I can make sure that you can try it out for free if you want to do that. But I’ll go through an example here where I’ve linked my Excel spreadsheet where I was doing analysis to ChatGPT. And I think you’ll agree it’s quite powerful what can be done. So I’ll share my screen to just bring up an example here. And on this example, I’m simulating performing some typical supply chain analysis that I perform. So, for example, I’ve got a number of items here that I’ve got 52 weeks of sales data, some high moving items, some slower moving, some with predictable sales patterns, some with more erratic variable demand so basically what I want to try and understand from this is given just that raw data I just want to understand what should my make to order make the stock strategy be based on what I can see here what level of safety stock should I be holding based on the service levels and the rate of sale, the information for each item? What should I have for an ABCXYZ classification and how might that dictate how I handle items? But then also a common question is, well, what forecasting method should I use and has that changed based on the information? And what I’m going to do here when I run the macro is I have a visual basic, which is running and compiling all that information. And it’s passing it to ChatGPT to query the questions, but it can handle data. And you can see it’s already come back with the response. And for all that specific information that I have given in here, I can see here that it’s come back with an answer for each item, whether it should be make to order and make to stock. It has come back with a safety stock that is calculated. And I’ve gone through these a few times just to verify. And the numbers are excellent. They’re pretty much stack up to what ASEM APICS values would say. The ABCXYZ, again, I’ve gone through this to verify, and the outcome here is spot on as to what I would do. And also suggested forecasting methods, which, again, having gone through it, would certainly stack up. So I think what I take from this, again, is just how cheap this is, how accessible, how current it is, that it’s something that you could do today. And really, I suppose what it shows is that AI and how we use it in supply chain is not a theoretical high level abstract topic. It is something that we should be looking to work into our daily jobs and something we should be looking at every week and if we’re not doing that there’s a real danger here that we can be left behind so if you’re interested in staying ahead of that curve rather than being left behind by all means reach out I can show you how to work an example like this yourselves and you can see for yourself how to work this and how useful it can be. Okay, but for now, I’ll leave it there and if anybody has any questions, reach out and otherwise, have a great day.
