We are always looking for better and more sophisticated ways to bring about process improvement. We are huge believers in the power of visual basic (VBAs/Macros) based in excel to automate processes without the need for expensive system implementations. The most recent example we had was a client which is very heavily impacted by weather conditions on its operations, could we feed the latest weather forecast directly into planning?
The answer thankfully is yes, and it works very well. All you need is excel!
There is a easy way to do it, and a hard way
The easy way? Just ask us, we can share the file where it is all build and help you until it is feeding through correctly, no charge, just happy to show what is possible
The hard way?
1: you need to enable developer on your excel ribbon
2: get a GitHub account and download the json conerter file
3: Sign up to a weather forecasting platform, get an API key from them, either via a free account, or a paid account
4: Develop your vba code to incorporate your API key
5: Run the macro and see your data feed through
like we say though, the easier option is to get the version we’ve created.. all that is done.. you just press a button!

Hi, we’re not familiar with other sites that explain these type of techniques, but if you have any questions, we’re happy to help. Start with what you need to do, then think creatively about how to use the tools and techniques at your disposal. The SCOR framework is great to help explain a huge number of potential practices you can call upon. Otherwise, use chat GPT.. it will help guide you on the steps to practically implement this. Good luck!!
